The Kindness of Strangers

In my short time in Greystones, I have been humbled by the kindness,  honesty, and helpfulness of strangers.

There are so many examples of kindness to choose from:

There was the mechanic who listened to my nervous anticipation that my car might not be roadworthy for my 2nd attempt at my driving test so he topped up the oil and windscreen fluid just in case - and it was on the house.

There was the woman who found a bag of gifts from Rituals that I left on the Dart on my way home from work in Dublin and kept them safe for me (and within minutes of forgetting my bag, she had posted on Greystones Open Forum on Facebook that she had it).  Amazing!  And the lady from the Tidy Towns Committee who went to the trouble to drop off a wireless earbud to my apartment which I had lost while out walking (after I posted about it on the Greystones Open Forum).

There was the young guy behind the counter at a local petrol station who helped me when I told him I thought there wasn't any air coming out of the machine when I attempted to pump up the tires of my car.  I didn't know I had to set the tire pressure first!!  It was 9pm on a winter's night and  he not only offered to show me but replaced the euro I had spent and pumped all four tires for me.

Drivers here (at least in the local area) are courteous and don't honk if you are too slow at a traffic light and will let you proceed in front of them if you are trying to make a turn!  Very seldom seen on Long Island and definitely never witnessed in New York City!

These random acts of kindness and courteousness are an added bonus to living in Greystones.
